O German parliament approved this Friday, 21, the creation of a fund of € 200 billion (R$ 1 trillion) for measures against
the energy crisis. The amount will be used in subsidies for families and companies, with the aim of reducing the impact of the explosion in energy prices.
To create the fund, parliamentarians authorized the government to contract new debts. The German constitution prohibits
the government from taking on debt to fund the budget, and the only exception is for exceptional emergencies
such as the situation now, according to the government. This is the second time this year that Parliament has approved this type of measure.
The proposal was approved by parliamentarians from the center-left parties that form the governing coalition:
Social Democratic Party (SPD), Green Party and Liberal Democratic Party (FDP). The conservative caucus,
formed by the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and Christian Social Union (CSU), voted against.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz
