UP News: Candidates will be able to spend more in civic elections, know the new instructions of the Election Commission

UP News: The Uttar Pradesh Election Commission has increased the expenditure limit for candidates in the upcoming rural and urban local body elections in the state. Election Commissioner Sudha Verma has informed about this by sending a letter to all the district administrations. Let us inform that apart from increasing the expenditure for the election of Mayor, Municipality and Nagar Panchayat President, the nomination fee and security deposit have also been increased. Full details have been given by the State Election Commission.

What is the difference between the expenditure before and now

According to the Election Commission, in municipal corporations that have 80 or more wards, the mayor candidate will be able to spend up to Rs 40 lakh. Whereas in the last election the maximum limit of expenditure was Rs 25 lakh. Apart from this, where the number of wards is less than 80, candidates will be able to spend Rs 35 lakh, which was Rs 20 lakh earlier. Similarly, candidates for the post of Municipal Councilor will be able to spend a maximum of Rs 3 lakh in the election. 2.5 lakh in the first election.

Amount fixed according to the number of wards

The expenditure limit for the post of chairman in municipalities with a number of 25 to 40 wards is now Rs 9 lakh, which was Rs 6 lakh earlier. In the municipalities having the number of wards between 41 and 55, the claimants for the post of president will now be able to spend Rs 12 lakh instead of Rs 8 lakh. The limit of election expenditure has also been increased for the candidates for the post of Nagar Panchayat President and Member. The maximum limit for election expenditure for the post of Speaker has been raised to Rs 2.5 lakh, which was 1.5 lakh. Whereas the maximum expenditure limit for members was fixed at Rs 50,000, which was Rs 30,000 till now.

Enrollment and bail fee also increased

At the same time, the enrollment fee and security deposit have also been increased. The nomination fee for mayoral candidate (general category) has been fixed at Rs 1,000 and security deposit at Rs 12,000. The enrollment fee for the reserved category is Rs 500 and the security deposit is Rs 6,000. For Municipal Councilor (General Category) candidates the enrollment fee is Rs 400 and security deposit is Rs 2,500. The enrollment fee for the reserved category is Rs 200 and the security deposit is Rs 1,250.

Separate amount for general and reserved categories

For general category candidates contesting for the post of Municipality President, a nomination fee of Rs 500 along with a security deposit of Rs 8,000 will be taken. Whereas for the reserved category candidates, the enrollment fee will be Rs 250 and the security deposit will be Rs 4,000. The nomination for general category candidates contesting for the post of Municipality member is Rs 200 and the security deposit is Rs 2,000. Whereas for reserved category candidates the enrollment fee is Rs 100 and security deposit is Rs 1,000.

Work will be done after reorganization and delimitation of wards

According to the Joint Election Commissioner, the report is awaited at the commission level after the reorganization and delimitation of wards in the municipal bodies. After receiving the report, the work of revision of voter list will be started. The tenure of the present board in the municipal bodies is ending on January 5, 2024. In this regard, preparations have been made to hold elections in November-December.
