The Ministry of Communication together with the Ministry of Education launched the Internet Brazil Program. The program is an initiative created to bring internet connection and digital inclusion to students and their families.
Supported by the National Education and Research Network (RNP), the internet access program promises to provide chip and data package for basic education students in the public education network. However, to take part, the child and his family must be enrolled in the Federal Government Social Program (CadÚnico).
How will the implementation be done?
The government foresees that the implementation will be done gradually, that is, little by little. In the first phase, up to 10,000 students will benefit from the novelty, they will be from 15 schools in six cities in the Northeast state.
At first, the Internet Brazil Program should help the Nordeste Conectado Project, which already provides internet for the municipalities of Caicó/RN, Campina Grande/PB, Caruaru/PE, Juazeiro/BA, Mossoró/RN and Petrolina/PE.
The first shipment of chips has already arrived in Brazil and should start being delivered next week. Another positive side of the program is that the families of these students will also be able to communicate with their children’s schools and teachers via the internet.
Why is the internet important?
The internet makes it possible for students to study outside the school walls. In this way, all places with cell phones will be learning spaces. But it is worth mentioning that although the pedagogical use is the main objective of the program, it is not the only one. Promoting the democratization of internet access is also one of the objectives of the project, which brings internet to children and their families.
