What is Brazil Aid?

The income transfer program created by current President Jair Messias Bolsonaro (PL) emerged to replace Bolsa Família, created during the first mandate of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT). The benefit is intended to help families in poverty or extreme poverty enrolled in the Federal Government Social Program (CadÚncico).

Currently, families who receive the benefit have a value of R$600. However, the Auxílio Brasil was voted to be a benefit of R$400. Its value was changed due to the PEC approved by the National Congress in July, which guaranteed an increase of BRL 200.

However, it is worth noting that the current aid will only maintain the value of the installment at R$ 600 until December. Starting next year, the Bolsonaro government’s proposal is that the aid return to an average of R$ 400.

The Future of Brazil Aid

With Lula’s victory at the polls in October 2022, the value of the Auxílio Brasil became uncertain. This happens because the Lula government wants to maintain the benefit with installments of R$ 600. However, for that, it needs the Federal Government to approve the Transition PEC proposed by the future new government.

If approved, the Auxílio Brasil should continue with installments of R$ 600. However, families with children up to 6 years old in the household should receive an extra amount of R$ 150 per child added to the Auxílio Brasil.
